When Science Meets Fashion, 2nd Edition
Second edition of I See Something Else, ITS Arcademy and
Area Science Park initiative that brings together art, fashion and scientific research.

Using as starting point the exhibition EXPOSURE – The Power of Being Seen, from Harry Styles to Lady Gaga, featuring garments created by designers discovered by ITS Contest and worn by well-known celebrities, scientists working at Trieste’s research centres will guide the public on an unconventional journey through design, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, light and biodiversity, exploring how science can offer new ways of interpreting images, matter and the world around us.
The initiative is part of the programme of SHARPER – European Researchers’ Night, which will take place in Trieste on September 25th.

“I See Something Else” is organized by ITS Arcademy and Area Science Park in collaboration with Immaginario Scientifico and is a pre-event for SHARPER Trieste – European Researchers’ Night 2025 (GA 101162370).
Eleonora Camastra

A marine ecologist, she specialises in the restoration and conservation of marine ecosystems, with a particular focus on seagrass meadows. She contributes to the management and monitoring of marine and coastal habitats in the Northern Adriatic.
Ilaria Carlomagno
Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste
Researcher at the fluorescence beamline, she uses X-rays to analyse the chemical and physical properties of matter at the micro- and nanoscale. After a PhD focused on surface science and magnetism, she expanded her interest to the fields of cultural heritage and environmental science, where applied physics can provide a fundamental contribution.
Bianca Monachesi
SISSA - Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati
Assistant Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience at SISSA, she investigates the neural mechanisms underlying emotional processing and regulation and their interaction with cognitive processes. Her research also explores the role of emotional intelligence and how emotions are processed in complex social contexts and clinical populations.
Emanuele Panizon
Area Science Park
He is a researcher at the Data Engineering Laboratory of Area Science Park. His research focuses on artificial intelligence algorithms and reinforcement learning. He studies the inner workings of large language models and their applications across a wide range of scientific fields.
Ilargi Napal Azcona
Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste
A PhD in Nanotechnology specialises in the study of advanced materials for energy applications using synchrotron-based techniques. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, where her work focuses on the development and characterisation of more efficient catalytic materials for CO2 conversion and valorisation.
Elena Toti

She conducts field research aimed at protecting the ecosystems of the Northern Adriatic. She takes part in activities to monitor, preserve and restore marine biodiversity, and reports on conservation efforts to safeguard threatened species such as the Mediterranean macroalgal forests.
Hasya Fatiha Zuraimy
SISSA - Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati
A PhD student in Cognitive Neuroscience at SISSA in Trieste. Her research examines the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive objectification and how these processes blur the distinction between object recognition and person perception.
